What Should a Home Service Business Website Include? A 10-Point Checklist

A plain checklist for tree, lawn, fence, pest and pressure washing businesses. The 10 things your website needs to turn searches into calls, and what you can skip.

When someone needs a tree taken down, a fence fixed or their driveway cleaned, they usually search, look at two or three businesses, and call the one that feels most trustworthy. Your website only gets a few seconds to earn that call.

The good news: a home service website doesn't need to be big or fancy. It needs the right pieces, in the right order. Here's the checklist.

1. A headline that says what you do and where

"Tree removal and trimming in Knoxville" beats "Welcome to our website" every time. Visitors should know in one glance that they're in the right place, and Google reads that same line to figure out who you serve.

2. A call button that's always in reach

Most of your customers are on a phone, often standing in their yard looking at the problem. Put your number at the top of the page, make it tap to call, and keep a call button visible as they scroll.

3. A short quote form

Not everyone wants to call, especially after hours. A quote form with name, phone, address and what they need is enough. Every extra question costs you requests. The answers should go straight to your phone and email so you can reply fast.

4. Your services, each with a sentence or two

List what you actually do: "Stump grinding", "Soft washing for siding", "Quarterly pest protection". A sentence under each one answers the question "do they do what I need?" and gives Google more ways to match you to searches.

5. The towns you serve

Spell out your service area: the city plus the nearby towns and neighborhoods. People search "lawn care in Cary," not just "lawn care." If a town isn't on your site, you're much less likely to show up for it.

6. Your reviews, up front

Reviews are the first thing people check. In BrightLocal's 2026 survey of US consumers, 97% said they read reviews for local businesses, and 54% said they check the business's website after reading good ones. That means many visitors arrive already sold on your reviews and just want to confirm you're legit. Show your star rating and two or three of your best reviews near the top.

7. Real photos of your work

Before and after shots, your crew, your trucks, finished jobs. Photos prove you're a real local business and show the quality of your work better than any sentence can. Phone photos are fine. Just keep them bright and in focus.

8. The things people worry about

Every trade has a worry that stops people from calling. Answer it on the page:

  • Tree service: Are you insured? Will you clean up?
  • Pest control: Is it safe for my kids and pets?
  • Pressure washing: Will it damage my siding?
  • Fence: Do you handle permits and HOA approval?
  • Lawn care: Is there a contract?

A short FAQ section handles most of these before the customer ever has to ask.

9. A simple "how it works"

Three steps is plenty: request a quote, get a clear price, we do the work. It makes hiring you feel easy and tells people what happens after they reach out.

10. Your own domain and a secure connection

A site on yourbusiness.com with the padlock in the browser looks established. A free site builder address or a "not secure" warning makes people hesitate. It's a small detail that affects trust.

What you can skip

  • A long "About us" page. One short paragraph and your years in business is enough.
  • A blog, at least at first. It helps some businesses, but it isn't what gets the phone ringing.
  • Fancy animations and sliders. They slow the page down and distract from the call button.
  • Pages nobody visits. One well-organized page often beats five thin ones.
